Addition Word Work - Reading and Math Combined Activity

I love activities that do double the work without your child even knowing it. So how about reading and math at the same time - I know right, that is a mind blower!

This activity is fun and makes your little one concentrate. It uses skills such as sounding the words, addition, brain-strengthening and more.

I put it together the other day to use during the up and coming holidays -for those "I'm Bored" moments. I have made three difficulty levels - Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3.

What you have to do is write each of your spelling words on a sheet of paper. Find each of the letters in the word, add up the numbers and write down the sum for each word.

Example: For the word Bag, you would add: 3+ 1+ 13 , Which would give you the sum of: 17

A Cute Frog Pond board game to practice the alphabet, numbers and words.

Help the frogs across the pond to reach their friends with this Big A3 board game. Help your child practice their alphabet, numbers, words and more.

Board Games are an excellent way to learn.  Children learn valuable skills like hand-eye coordination to social skills, brain-strengthening strategy to math and language learning as well as turn taking and being a good sport, they gain knowledge of basic concepts as they practise good listening, following directions and responding appropriately. Children also get to work on their fine motor skills as they manipulate and move the game board pieces.  The best part about board games – They are downright fun!

This activity includes:
  • 1x A3 Game board
  • 1x Die
  • 4x Frog Game pieces
  • Directions for play

The Frog Pond - Directly download here.

The File is a Compressed Zip File, like winzip and winrar.
Be sure that you have an application to open this file type before downloading.
If you need a program to unzip files you can download Winrar here.

A good idea is to laminate the board game so you can use it over again. Print the game in A3 for better game play. Use the Frog game pieces to move across the board. With a white board marker, write the words, letters or numbers onto the lily pads. The Player rolls the die, and moves forward, which ever lily pad the player lands on, the player must then read what is written. Use a mix of words, numbers, and colours to make it interesting.

Bingo Cards – Colours and Shapes

BINGO is an all time favourite game to play! Our Bingo games are educational and fun and just the right size for your pre-schooler. With a 4x4 grid and colourful, thematic pictures to reinforce shape and colour recognition.

  • 2x Bingo Shape Cards
  • A Calling Card
  • Directions for play

What you will need:
Markers: Markers are used to cover the called out shape or colour. You may use anything you wish, for example, coins, jelly beans, pebbles, army men.

How to Play:
Cut the Bingo cards on the dotted line. The parent must keep the calling card. Hand out a bingo card to your child. The caller must then call out randomly, your child must then find the correct one and mark it/cover it. To win the game, your child must fill a whole line with markers, once they see a full line they must shout out bingo. It is a lot of fun if the parent plays too. Before you start the game explain what type of line your child must make. The line can be predetermined, horizontal, vertical or diagonal.
